The decision to bring a Siamese cat into my life was driven by a combination of curiosity and careful consideration. I had long yearned for a feline companion, yet the presence of my timid Bichon Frisé at home made me hesitant. I worried that a new cat might not blend well with our existing family dynamic. For a long time, I was caught in the endless search for the perfect cat breed, until I discovered the unique characteristics of Siamese cats. Their reputation for being one of the few cat breeds that could be taken out for walks intrigued me immensely, and I knew I had to give it a try.
When I first brought Xiaoyi home, I was immediately struck by its fearless nature. As soon as I opened the cage, Xiaoyi didn’t cower or hide like many newly – arrived cats. Instead, it marched straight towards the cat litter box I had prepared in advance, completely unfazed by the curious gazes of my Bichon and me. After finishing its business and meticulously burying the cat litter, Xiaoyi began to explore every corner of the house with confidence. It moved around so naturally that it felt as if my dog and I were the ones who were out of place, not the new arrival.

Xiaoyi’s friendliness knew no bounds. To test its social skills, I invited my friends over to meet and play with it. To my surprise, Xiaoyi welcomed everyone with open “arms.” It didn’t resist any of the petting or “massages” offered by my friends, happily soaking up the attention. I couldn’t help but wonder: was it my friends who were enjoying the cat – petting experience, or was it Xiaoyi that was relishing the affection from multiple people?
However, like all things in life, Xiaoyi wasn’t without its flaws. Now at two years old, having undergone sterilization surgery, Xiaoyi has undergone a noticeable transformation. Once a slender and fluffy kitten, it has now become a somewhat chubby “coal – miner,” with a face that has filled out and taken on a more rounded shape. It’s even plumper and more square – faced than I can describe.
Before, I had often heard that Siamese cats were not prone to weight gain. But through Xiaoyi’s experience, I’ve come to understand that maintaining a good figure requires effort, even for animals. After the vet advised me about Xiaoyi’s weight, I finally paid close attention to the importance of diet for sterilized cats. I switched Xiaoyi’s regular adult cat food to Royal Canin’s weight – loss formula. I also stopped giving it cat treats like cat sticks and nutritional pastes. When I want to reward it, I opt for a pack of Royal Canin’s wet food specifically designed for sterilized cats, which has relatively fewer calories.
Thankfully, Siamese cats have a natural love for exercise, and Xiaoyi is no exception. It never tires of playing ball – throwing games. Combining a strict diet with regular exercise, our weight – loss plan has started to show results. Seeing my friend’s distress over their overweight Ragdoll cat, I can’t help but feel a mix of sympathy and relief that Xiaoyi’s weight is gradually getting back on track.
Xiaoyi has not only become an important part of my family but also a source of many lessons and joys. Its bold personality, friendly nature, and the journey of dealing with its weight issues have all added rich colors to my life. Despite the challenges, I’m grateful for every moment spent with this charming Siamese cat, and I look forward to many more years of adventures and memories together.
