In the tapestry of my life, there is a thread of warmth and joy woven by a charming Siamese cat named Baibai. Baibai has been an integral part of my world for four wonderful years, and her story is one filled with love, companionship, and countless precious memories.
Baibai came into my life as a tiny kitten, and for the first three years, we were inseparable. She followed me everywhere, a constant and loving presence by my side. Whether I was reading a book, cooking a meal, or simply lounging on the sofa, she would be there, purring contentedly. Her blue eyes, as deep and mysterious as the ocean, always seemed to hold a world of curiosity and affection.
However, life took an unexpected turn when I had to leave for a job in another city. It was a heart – wrenching decision to part with Baibai, but I knew she would be in good hands with my parents. And so, my parents became her new caretakers, and Baibai adapted to her new life with grace and resilience. Despite the distance between us, I always carried the memories of our time together close to my heart.

What makes Baibai truly special is her unique personality. She seems to understand every word we say, as if she’s privy to our innermost thoughts. When she has a mischievous plan, like sneaking a snack from the kitchen counter, she’ll first observe her surroundings carefully. Her eyes will dart around, assessing the situation, and only when she deems it safe will she make her move. It’s both endearing and amusing to watch her little schemes unfold.
Baibai also has a remarkable sense of routine. Every night, before bedtime, my mother has a special ritual of gently wiping her down. As soon as the cleaning is done, Baibai will trot over to her designated spot on the bed, curl up, and settle in for the night. It’s as if she knows that this is the signal for rest, and she complies with the routine with a sense of calm and obedience.
With her sleek fur and elegant features, Baibai is a true beauty. Her photos, especially those taken while she’s asleep, capture her in all her glory. My father, her “grandpa,” loves to take pictures of her. When she’s awake, she seems to have an uncanny ability to sense when someone is trying to photograph her. She’ll immediately lower her head, as if shy or trying to avoid the camera’s gaze. But in her slumber, she reveals her most serene and adorable self, with her paws tucked neatly under her body and her breathing slow and steady.
On April 17, 2020, as I marked one month since I’d returned to my work unit, I decided to share Baibai’s name with the world. The reason behind her name, Baibai, is quite simple – she was purchased for 800 yuan. It may seem like a straightforward origin, but to me, it’s a reminder of the day she entered my life and the countless joys she’s brought since.
This past Chinese New Year, I decided to give Baibai a new companion – a cute silver – shaded British Shorthair kitten. From the moment the little one arrived, Baibai took on the role of a caring big sister. She watches over her new sibling with tenderness, following her around as she explores the house and joining in her playful adventures. Their bond has grown stronger day by day, and it’s heartwarming to see them curled up together, fast asleep, or chasing each other around the living room.
Baibai is more than just a cat; she’s a cherished member of our family. She has taught me the true meaning of loyalty and companionship. Even though I can’t be with her every day, I know that our connection remains unbreakable. I look forward to the day when I can be reunited with her, to hold her in my arms once again and create many more beautiful memories together.
