Quanneng, my beloved yet exasperating Siamese cat, never ceases to amaze me with its unique and often hilarious quirks. From its unpredictable weight gain to its unchanging fur color, and even the random comments about my hands, life with Quanneng is a never – ending source of amusement and surprise.
When I brought Quanneng home during the National Day holiday, I was initially a bit torn.I couldn’t help but worry about whether it had been eating properly or if something was wrong. On the other hand, a small part of me secretly rejoiced at the thought of having a slightly slimmer cat. I started imagining all the cute outfits I could dress it in and how much more graceful it would look.
But my hopes were quickly dashed. The very next day, Quanneng proved that its weight gain was no joke. Despite being fed the exact same amount of food as before, it somehow managed to regain all the lost weight, and then some. It was as if it had a magical ability to turn even the most meager of meals into pounds of fluffy fat. I couldn’t help but marvel at its incredible talent for packing on the pounds. It seemed that for Quanneng, happiness was directly proportional to weight gain. Even a simple sip of water could apparently contribute to its ever – expanding waistline.

In a moment of self – delusion, I even entertained the thought that perhaps it wasn’t the food that was making Quanneng fat. Maybe, just maybe, it was my own good looks that were so “pleasing to the cat’s eyes” that it couldn’t help but indulge and gain weight out of sheer contentment. Of course, deep down, I knew this was just wishful thinking, but it was a fun thought to have nonetheless.
Another aspect of Quanneng that has both fascinated and frustrated me is its fur color. As a Siamese with the characteristic pointed pattern, I once held out hope that it might one day turn white. However, after doing some research, I learned the truth. There’s an enzyme in a Siamese cat’s body that accumulates in areas with lower body temperature, causing those parts to darken. This means that no matter how much I wish for it, Quanneng will never turn white. In fact, for owners of pointed – colored cats, shaving their fur is a big no – no. Once the fur grows back, it will be completely black. And during the winter, even if we try to keep our cats warm, the darkening of their fur is often inevitable. So, I’ve come to accept that Quanneng’s dark fur is here to stay. Now, I don’t even dream of it turning white; I just hope that it can shed a few pounds and have a little more “self – respect” when it comes to its weight.
Amidst all these thoughts about Quanneng, there was an unexpected comment about a “little sister’s beautiful hands.” It made me laugh because, let’s be honest, my own hands are a bit of a mystery. One moment, they might look presentable and even somewhat elegant, and the next, they could resemble a pair of scrawny chicken feet. But really, when I have a cat as charming as Quanneng, who cares about hands? Just look at those big, expressive eyes that seem to hold a world of mischief and curiosity. And that big, round belly, which jiggles with every movement, is not only a testament to its love for food but also an endearing feature that makes it impossible not to love.
Quanneng may be full of quirks and may not always live up to my expectations, but that’s precisely what makes it so special. It brings a unique kind of joy and laughter into my life, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Every day with Quanneng is a new adventure, filled with unexpected moments and hilarious stories. Whether it’s watching it gobble up food, marveling at its unchanging fur color, or simply enjoying its company, I’m reminded of how lucky I am to have such a wonderful and one – of – a – kind feline friend.
