Raising a Siamese Cat: Costs, Quirks, and Delights

Raising a Siamese Cat: Costs, Quirks, and Delights

Excluding the damages it caused to public property at home, the monthly expenses for my Siamese cat amount to about 300 to 400 yuan. This includes cat food, canned food, freeze – dried snacks, cat litter, Frontline Plus for external deworming (once a month), Drontal for internal deworming (once every three months), as well as cat grass, cat scratching posts, and various toys. I do have a penchant for buying these items.

Since bringing it home almost three months ago, it has broken one cat bowl, chewed through two electrical wires, shredded and even eaten part of the curtains. It constantly picks up all sorts of strange, inedible things around the house. After urinating, I must catch it to clean its bottom; otherwise, it would run around the bed and sofa with urine all over its rear end. Occasionally, it would even get feces stuck in its cat bed. There was once a week when I had to wash the blankets four times.

But I can’t help but forgive it because it’s so good at winning people over. As soon as I get home, it yells at me with its hoarse meow, purring loudly enough to be heard from afar, and leaving a trail of white fur all over my black clothes. When I’m at home, it constantly demands hugs and pets. I believe Siamese cats are among the most clingy cat breeds.

Regarding body odor, as long as it doesn’t get feces or urine on itself, there’s hardly any smell. (For any cat, feces are like a biological weapon, and once you start raising a cat, you’ll definitely find yourself observing its feces – it’s inevitable.)

From what I’ve learned, Siamese cats are one of the easiest – to – raise cat breeds, second only to Chinese rural cats, and in some cases, even easier. My family’s rural cat is quite finicky. It can’t eat cold food, and can’t have too much freeze – dried food or canned food at once; otherwise, it would have loose stools or diarrhea. In contrast, my Siamese cat can eat anything without leaving a scrap, and it has a robust constitution. Even when it eats something it shouldn’t, it can expel it on its own. I was terrified when it ate the curtains, and the vet said we should first observe it and consider surgery if necessary. But the next day, it passed the curtains intact.

Each cat has different taste preferences and physical conditions. Because my rural cat is prone to loose stools, we feed it Orijen High – Protein Chicken. If your cat doesn’t have this problem, I don’t recommend this brand, as it’s prone to attracting insects and is quite expensive. Ultimately, your choice should depend on your financial situation. Brands like Acana, Halo, Nulo, and Dechkin are all excellent options.

I use PiDAN mixed cat litter. I haven’t tried other types, but I find it quite satisfactory. It has a milky fragrance that effectively masks odors.

At eight months old, it broke another bowl and chewed up countless small mouse toys. Recently, after its sterilization, it has become even more energetic, as if saying “Women only slow me down.”

Here are some pictures:

It loves staring at the computer screen.

Despite its small face, it always poses dramatically.

Is being so stylish against the law?

Getting groomed by the older cat.

I thought having two cats would double my happiness, but in reality, all the joy seems to be theirs, and I’m left with just the noise.

The only time it’s quiet is when it’s asleep.

Shortly after it first came home…

And now…

Goodbye.
