During the days spent with Shidan, the Siamese cat, I have increasingly felt its uniqueness. As a Siamese cat, Shidan has painted a vivid and colorful picture in my life with its distinctive personality. Its cleverness, sensitivity, and clinginess have made me love it even more deeply.
Shidan’s intelligence truly stands out among many cats. Many cat toys on the market puzzle other cats, like those of my friends, but Shidan can quickly master how to play with them, demonstrating amazing learning abilities. For relatively simple toys such as pistol – launched pom – poms and laser pointers, after about a minute of play, it can keenly figure out that the launching device is the key and stops simply chasing the toy, showing remarkable insight. Moreover, Shidan can understand simple commands.
Most of the time, it will obediently follow my instructions, except when it’s in a bad mood and decides to be a bit stubborn. What’s more astonishing is that as long as the doors at home aren’t double – locked, whether they are ordinary swing doors, sliding doors, or folding doors, Shidan can open them with its “wisdom.” Its proficient actions make it seem like a “little master locksmith.” When it’s hungry, it will use its paw to press the cat food bag, making a noise to remind me to feed it. This unique way of communication fully shows its cleverness. Shidan also loves playing fetch.

Whenever it wants to play, it will bring the cat teaser in its mouth and place it at my feet, with eager anticipation in its eyes. If I’m watching a video, it will unceremoniously sit in front of the tablet, blocking the screen with its body, as if saying, “Stop watching the video and play with me!” When going out to play, Shidan’s behavior is very interesting. If I follow behind it, it will run around joyfully. Once it realizes I’m not going in the same direction, it will play for a short while and then crouch at the door, waiting for me to open it and take it home. And every time I say, “Let’s go home,” it will quickly hide under the car, trying to delay going back, its naughty look making me laugh.
However, the clever Shidan also has a sensitive and vulnerable side. Siamese cats are known for their sensitivity, and Shidan is no exception. During its adolescence, it often had stress reactions due to various reasons. Before the age of three, Shidan was frequently troubled by health problems. Conditions like urinary obstruction and gastrointestinal discomfort sent it to the hospital four or five times a year. Each hospitalization cost around 3,000 to 5,000 yuan. What’s more heartbreaking is that during hospital examinations and injections, Shidan would struggle fiercely. The doctor said it was rare to see a cat react so strongly, and in the end, they had to sedate it. Watching it suffer from illness, I felt both distressed and helpless, just hoping it could get better soon.
Shidan’s clinginess is unparalleled. It not only sticks to me all the time but also cares deeply about the whole family. Every day, if my mother and I are in different rooms, Shidan will choose to sit in a position where it can see both of us, like a little guard protecting the family. If I close the door to do my own thing, it will surely find a way to open the door and come in to check on me. This intimate companionship allows me to draw strength from it when I’m tired and have someone to share my joy with when I’m happy.
Shidan is like a treasure full of surprises. Its cleverness, sensitivity, and clinginess form its unique charm. Although there have been concerns and exhaustion in the process of raising it, every moment spent with it has become the most precious memory in my life. I believe that in the days to come, Shidan will continue to bring me more joy and touching moments in its own way, and I will always be by its side, safeguarding this precious bond.
