On July 7th, a new member joined our family – a Siamese kitten named Naigao, whom we affectionately call Fugui. This friendly little one, with its tiny body, neither cried nor fussed upon arrival. Instead, it trotted around, sniffing and exploring the new environment with curiosity. Its lively appearance instantly won the hearts of the whole family.
In terms of diet, to help Fugui adapt smoothly to its new home, I specifically bought the same cat food it had been eating at the pet store. Suddenly changing the cat food might cause it to refuse to eat or even lead to gastrointestinal discomfort. Besides cat food, clean drinking water is essential. Boiled – cooled water or mineral water is suitable, but it needs to be changed regularly to prevent dust and other impurities from falling in.

Fugui has its own food preferences. When I prepared boiled chicken breast for it, it showed great enthusiasm and ate it with relish. However, when it came to fish, it was a bit picky. For fried small hairtail fish, it only ate some of the meat that wasn’t coated with flour. As for steamed fish, it didn’t eat much, probably because of the seasonings. Additionally, there are some tips for choosing tableware. It’s best to use porcelain or iron bowls. If plastic bowls are used to hold food for a long time without timely cleaning, bacteria are likely to grow, which is harmful to the kitten’s health.I’ve learned these little tips through my purchasing experience. The prices in pet stores are often much higher than those online!
Regarding health care, after Fugui arrived home, I followed the pet store owner’s instructions and fed it deworming medicine. Considering Fugui’s light weight, the owner suggested dividing the medicine tablet (usually for a 2 – kg cat) and feeding it over two days, completing the first round of internal deworming. However, external deworming is yet to be done, which has become a key task for me in the future.
I was pleasantly surprised by Fugui’s good living habits. Perhaps it had received good guidance from its mother cat. As soon as it arrived home, it knew how to find the litter box and skillfully defecated and buried it. But the choice of the litter box is also important. It’s best to have a footpad or choose one with higher edges. Even so, cat litter is still likely to be carried out by its little paws, so placing deodorant or using deodorant spray next to the litter box is necessary. Since Fugui is still a kitten, I clean the litter box every two days and add new cat litter in a timely manner after cleaning. Fugui has a requirement for the thickness of the cat litter. If it’s too thin, it won’t use it. What a “principled” little cat!
July 14th was an important day in Fugui’s growth. On this day, it received its first vaccine shot. The store owner specifically reminded that there should be a one – week interval between deworming medicine and vaccine vaccination to avoid interactions between the drugs. At the same time, I also trimmed its front nails. However, considering the kitten’s poor stability, only some of the nails were trimmed this time. When it grows up a bit, a more comprehensive trimming will be done, which can both protect me from scratches and ensure a safer trimming process. I’ve learned that cats need to receive 4 vaccine shots in the first year and 2 shots every year thereafter. These vaccines will build a solid defense line for Fugui’s healthy growth.
From the moment Fugui arrived home, my life has been filled with more concerns and responsibilities. Taking care of its daily diet and daily life, and paying attention to its health status, these seemingly trivial things are actually full of warmth and happiness. Watching Fugui grow healthily day by day, I deeply understand that this journey with it will become a precious and beautiful memory in my life.
