The Bittersweet Experience of Raising a Siamese Cat

The Bittersweet Experience of Raising a Siamese Cat

Before deciding to raise a Siamese cat, I never imagined it would be such a journey full of challenges and surprises. Now, my Siamese cat has become a love – hate presence in my life.

At first, it was incredibly cute when it was small, a fluffy ball that made me want to take good care of it. However, just one year later, it grew rapidly as if it had been inflated. Now, whenever guests come to my home, their first reaction upon seeing it is to shout in surprise, “Holy cow, it’s so big!”

Despite its adult – like body, it still has the heart of a baby. It loves to hang on my neck like a heavy pendant. Once, when I was playing a game, it suddenly jumped on me. With this ten – pound fat cat hanging on my neck, I felt like my cervical spine was about to break. Even when I was watching a drama, it wouldn’t let me be and insisted on hanging on my neck. If I didn’t let it, it would start causing trouble. It would step on the power supply when I was in the middle of a game or on the keyboard when I was watching a show. It was truly despairing.

To prevent it from chewing on the wires, I had to place the power strip against the wall and the computer screen close to the wall. However, nothing in my home was safe from its “claws”. Almost none of my clothes were clean or intact. They were either covered in cat hair or had holes scratched by it. A nice pure – cotton T – shirt was scratched with a big hole, and I didn’t even notice it until later. My skirt was snagged, the belt was almost bitten through, and the glasses legs were full of bite marks and saliva. It was really a mix of amusement and annoyance.

The trash can in my home is always turned over. In its eyes, the trash can should never stand upright. There are always cotton swabs and bottle caps under the fridge, and I have no idea when it hid them there. If I don’t let it play with the trash, it thinks I’m trying to take it away. It will grab it and run away, and then it’s a matter of luck if I can find it again.

This Siamese cat is also a real chatterbox, constantly spouting “words”. When I go to the toilet, it squats outside the door and “scolds”; when I take a shower, it does the same; when I come home late, it follows me and “scolds”. I wonder where it gets so many emotions from. Did it go out to earn extra money during the day? Or did it not eat or drink enough? Why does it have so much drama?

For girls, raising a Siamese cat is like having an immature boyfriend. It has extremely strong possessiveness. If you play with your phone, it thinks you’re having an affair. If you ignore it, it will start destroying things. It might rummage through the trash can one day, push over a cardboard box the next, and break your foundation the day after. I’ve had such a painful experience, and it really hurt my heart.

For boys, raising a Siamese cat is like having a hard – to – please girlfriend. It follows you around all day, saying, “Yingyingying, play with me”, “Why don’t you play with me?” And if you do play with it, it might get angry with you. It’s really confusing.

What’s even more amazing is that it doesn’t even stop making noise in its dreams. I’ve caught it talking in its sleep two or three times. A cat with a bad sleeping posture, grinding its teeth, talking in its sleep, and even kicking people when having a nightmare. Look at the bent shelf kicked by it, and then look at its kiwi – like butt. Sometimes I really think it’s just a kiwi with a head.

When it gets caught doing something wrong, its expressions are also hilarious. When caught biting the curtain, it has a look of “It’s none of my business”; when it crawls out from behind the computer, it looks so aloof. It always makes me both angry and amused.

Although raising this Siamese cat has given me a hard time and I’m constantly swearing and being “sworn at”, it also brings me a lot of joy and companionship. It’s like a spice in life. Although the taste is a bit special, it makes my life more colorful. Maybe this is the meaning of raising a pet. While it’s full of challenges, it also allows me to harvest a lot of love and warmth.
