Before deciding to adopt a Siamese cat, I secretly scoured through every post on Zhihu about Siamese cats darkening. I asked myself countless times, “If it turns dark, will I still love it?” After a moment of hesitation, I answered firmly, “I’m not that shallow – minded person who only cares about appearance!” With that determination, I welcomed Shiqi into my life.
When I first brought home the adorable little Shiqi, just a few months old, it was like holding a ball of soft, fluffy sunshine. Its innocent eyes sparkled with curiosity, and its gentle purrs melted my heart. At that time, its fur was light and soft, and its small body was full of energy, exploring every corner of the house with enthusiasm. It would playfully chase after a small toy mouse, pounce on a dangling string, and curl up in my lap, seeking warmth and comfort. Those early days were filled with pure joy and sweetness.

However, as time passed, I witnessed the gradual change in Shiqi’s appearance. Slowly but surely, its fur started to darken. It was a process that I both found amusing and a bit endearing.Despite the change in its looks, Shiqi’s charming personality remained as strong as ever.
Shiqi was incredibly clingy. It would follow me around the house, from room to room, never wanting to be too far away. Whether I was cooking in the kitchen, reading on the sofa, or working at my desk, it would find a way to be by my side. If I sat down, it would immediately jump onto my lap, nestling in and purring contentedly. Its affection was so intense that it always made me feel loved and needed.
It was also extremely curious about everything related to food. Whenever I opened the refrigerator or took out a snack, its eyes would widen, and it would stare at me intently, as if hoping to get a taste. Sometimes, it would even “scold” me with a series of meows if it thought I was taking too long to share something with it. But as soon as we went outside, its bravado disappeared, and it would become timid, clinging to me tightly.
As Shiqi grew older, it became plumper, and its fur darkened even more, giving it an “oily” look. There were times when it would lie on the floor, looking exhausted, as if life was too tough for it. It even had the “naughty” habit of wetting the bed once in a while, which made me both annoyed and amused. But one of the most endearing things about Shiqi was its “guarding” of the water dispenser. It would sit beside it, as if protecting a precious treasure, making sure no one else touched it.
Now, Shiqi is both dark and chubby, but none of that affects my love for it. Looking at the latest photo I took of it yesterday, I’m filled with warmth and happiness. It has become an essential part of my life, and every moment spent with it is a precious memory. From the cute little kitten it once was to the charming, if a bit chubby and dark, cat it is now, Shiqi has brought so much love and laughter into my world. My love for it is unwavering, and I know that we will continue to create many more wonderful memories together in the future.
