In the symphony of my daily life, the most charming and unpredictable melody is played by my Siamese cat, Xiaoxian. This feline friend has woven herself so intricately into the fabric of my days that life without her seems unimaginable.
Xiaoxian has a fiery spirit that often ignites hilarious confrontations. When scolded, she doesn’t submit meekly. Instead, she talks back, and if she realizes she’s losing the “argument,” she dashes away, muttering grumbles under her breath. It’s as if she’s having a heated internal monologue, cursing me for daring to admonish her. This feisty attitude is both exasperating and endearing, adding a dash of drama to our interactions.

Her love for snacks is unparalleled. Call her sweetly with “Xiaoxian~ Xiaoxian~” during ordinary times, and she’ll turn a deaf ear, lowering her head as if she can’t understand a word. But the moment I open the cabinet where her treats are stored, it’s as if she’s cast a teleportation spell straight out of Hogwarts. In less than three seconds, she materializes before me, purring and rubbing her head against my knees, all charm and flattery. At this moment, she’s the epitome of docility, allowing me to pet her to my heart’s content. However, once she’s devoured the snacks and is certain there’s no more to be had, she transforms into a completely different cat. She turns her back on me when I try to stroke her head, and if I persist, I’m greeted with playful “meow punches.”
Despite her mood swings, Xiaoxian is incredibly clingy. When she was a kitten, she loved to sleep on my neck. Whenever I was engrossed in doing homework or working on a spreadsheet on the computer, she’d saunter over and start causing a ruckus. After a while of playful disruption, when she grew bored, she’d clamber up my clothes and settle on my neck, promptly falling asleep. It felt like I was harboring a tiny hawk, a warm and furry weight that both hindered my work and filled me with affection.
Every day, my boyfriend and I can’t resist indulging in some “cat – cuddling” sessions. During holidays, half a day can easily be dedicated to playing with her. She’s a loyal companion, seeing me off when I leave and greeting me enthusiastically at the door before I even unlock it, meowing loudly to express her joy. If I don’t reach out to pet her immediately upon entering, she’ll leap up, nudging her head into my hand, demanding attention.
Surprisingly, for a cat, Xiaoxian has an irrational fear of the dark. Her food bowl is placed in the bathroom, but when she’s hungry at night, she refuses to go there alone. Instead, she comes to find me, meowing insistently until I accompany her to the bathroom and turn on the light. And if I try to leave before she’s finished eating, she calls me back, as if she needs an audience while she dines.
At night, she’s insistent on sleeping with me. Hiding under the covers, she’s quick to pounce on my toes if I so much as stir in my sleep. When locked outside the bedroom door, she wails pitifully, jumping and pawing at the door. It’s impossible to resist her pleas, so I always end up letting her in. Once she’s settled, she sleeps like a log, often in the most comical poses – sometimes with her nose covered, and her little legs stretched out straight, looking both adorable and absurd.
Xiaoxian, with all her quirks and charm, has filled my life with countless unforgettable moments. She’s not just a pet; she’s an irreplaceable part of my family, bringing laughter, warmth, and endless love every single day.
