When it’s time for a meal, he doesn’t settle for a distant view. Instead, he leaps onto our shoulders with remarkable agility, nestling his head comfortably to peek at the food on our plates. His soft fur brushes against our necks, and his gentle purring seems to say, “Share a bite with me?”
When we’re engrossed in a video game, Shouge sees it as an opportunity to demand attention. He saunters over and plops down right on the keyboard, his body covering the keys. His eyes lock onto ours, and his tail swishes back and forth, as if to say, “Forget the game; it’s playtime with me now!” No matter how many times we gently move him aside, he always finds his way back, determined to be the center of our focus.
At night, Shouge has a ritual. Without fail, he sneaks under the covers, wriggling his way close to us. He snuggles up, pressing his body against ours, even if it means getting accidentally squished. Once he’s in a comfortable position, he’ll nuzzle his face against ours, and if he’s feeling particularly affectionate, he’ll give us a soft “kiss” with his nose. He’ll playfully bat at us with his paws, as if saying, “Alright, that’s enough!” His contradictory behavior is both frustrating and adorable, making us love him even more.

He’ll sit up straight, his eyes wide and pleading, or rub against our legs, purring loudly. When we give in and offer him a snack, he gobbles it down in an instant, then looks up at us expectantly, asking for more. His food – seeking antics are a constant source of amusement, but we can never resist those big, innocent eyes.
What makes Shouge truly special is his complete lack of shyness. New people, new environments – nothing fazes him. The very first day he arrived at our home, he didn’t cower in a corner like many cats do. Instead, he confidently explored every nook and cranny. He sniffed the cat litter box curiously, then set off to investigate each room, his tail held high. When guests come over, he welcomes them with open “arms,” allowing anyone to pet him. He rolls over on his back, exposing his belly, and purrs contentedly, making everyone fall in love with him at first sight.
But perhaps Shouge’s most impressive talent is his fetching ability. Recently, we discovered that he can retrieve the cat teaser we throw with astonishing consistency. No matter how far we toss it, he dashes after it, his paws moving in a blur. He grabs the teaser in his mouth and then brings it back, dropping it at our feet, waiting for the next throw. It’s a skill that never fails to amaze us, and it further cements his reputation as a cat with a “dog’s soul.”
Shouge, with all his quirks and charm, has become an integral part of our lives. He’s a reminder of the simple joys that a pet can bring, of the unconditional love and endless entertainment that come with having such a unique companion.
