On August 5th, 2021, I find myself filled with a mix of emotions as I sit down to write this update. First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has shown their love and support for my beloved cat, Douli, and our story. This update also marks a significant turning point in both our lives – a journey that has been nothing short of extraordinary.
The pandemic has disrupted countless lives around the world, and like many others, I made the difficult decision to return to China for development. But my decision came with an added challenge – I couldn’t bear the thought of leaving Douli behind. Douli, with its unique charm, has become an inseparable part of my life. Its once – light fur has gradually darkened over the years, and as some friends jokingly commented, it has indeed taken on an “oily uncle” appearance. But despite its somewhat rugged exterior, Douli’s personality is as endearing as ever. Its meows are soft and sweet, almost like a little girl’s voice, which is so different from the typical feline sounds. It’s these little quirks that make Douli so special, a one – of – a – kind presence that no other cat could ever replace.

The process of bringing Douli back home was filled with countless obstacles and uncertainties. At the very beginning, I nearly fell victim to a scammer posing as a pet transportation agent. They promised a seamless journey but demanded exorbitant fees upfront. Fortunately, I saw through their lies just in time, saving myself from a potentially disastrous situation. After that scare, I knew I had to take matters into my own hands.
Securing a flight for Douli was a battle in itself. With flight restrictions and high demand for pet – friendly travel options during the pandemic, finding a suitable flight seemed like an impossible task. But my determination to keep Douli by my side never wavered. Day after day, I scoured the internet, checked flight schedules, and reached out to airlines. Finally, after what felt like an eternity of waiting and hoping, I managed to snag an in – cabin ticket on Air Canada. It was a moment of pure relief and joy, a glimmer of hope in what had been a long and arduous journey.
The flight itself was a nerve – wracking experience. I was constantly worried about Douli’s well – being, hoping that it wouldn’t be too stressed or uncomfortable during the long hours in the air. But Douli surprised me with its resilience. It remained calm and composed, as if it understood that we were on a special adventure together. When the plane finally touched down in Shanghai, a wave of emotions washed over me. After all the challenges, all the sleepless nights, we had made it home.
Now, as we embark on this new chapter in China, I’m filled with a sense of gratitude and anticipation. I’m grateful for the love and support from everyone who has followed our story, and I’m thankful for the countless kind souls who offered advice and assistance during our journey. And I’m excited to see what the future holds for Douli and me.
