Siamese Cat Raising: An Unexpected Challenging Journey

Siamese Cat Raising: An Unexpected Challenging Journey

Once upon a time, Siamese cats were the epitome of the perfect pet in my mind. The reputation of being the “dog among cats” and their unique appearance made me long for one. After pestering my boyfriend for nearly half a year, I finally got my wish. However, this experience of raising a Siamese cat has far exceeded my expectations and turned into an unexpected journey full of challenges.

During the first two weeks after bringing the Siamese cat home, it was indeed as clingy as everyone said. It followed me everywhere, like a little tail that I couldn’t shake off. When I was reading a book, it would lie quietly on the pages; when I was cooking, it would squat obediently at my feet. Its cute and gentle appearance filled me with joy, and I thought I had finally got the ideal pet I had always dreamed of.

But as it gradually got familiar with the environment, everything changed dramatically. The originally docile little angel seemed to turn into a mischievous “little devil” overnight. It started bullying the bigger cats at home. Whether it was snatching food during meals or deliberately provoking them while playing, the bigger cats were always frightened by it. I thought it would become more sensible as it grew up, so I bought it a cage, hoping it could stay quietly inside and learn the rules gradually. But to my surprise, even now that it’s nine months old, it’s still incredibly naughty. When it’s locked in the cage, it scratches and meows non – stop, trying every means to get out. Once released, it immediately becomes the “little overlord,” and the bigger cats in the house hide as soon as they see it. The whole house is in chaos because of it.

In daily life, its naughtiness is everywhere. The sofa at home is scratched beyond recognition, the curtains are covered with its “masterpieces,” and various small items are often knocked over. It’s full of energy, as if it has an endless supply of strength, jumping around non – stop. I’ve tried all kinds of methods to discipline it, patiently teaching, sternly scolding, and even using some small punishments, but with little success. It still does whatever it wants, ignoring my “discipline.”

Now, my boyfriend persuades me every day to give it away. He thinks it’s not a long – term solution to keep it in the cage and let it out for a while occasionally. It’s not fair to the cat either. As for me, although I’m exhausted by its behavior, I’m reluctant to send it away. After all, we’ve developed a deep bond during this long time. Looking back on its once clingy and cute appearance and then at its current naughty and domineering look, I feel nothing but helplessness and confusion.

Through this experience of raising a Siamese cat, I’ve deeply realized that every cat has its unique personality, and we can’t just have fixed expectations based on the general characteristics of the breed. For those who want to raise a Siamese cat, especially those who already have other pets at home, they must think carefully. Siamese cats are active and have strong personalities. Without enough time, energy, and patience to guide and discipline them, you may end up in the same predicament as me. I hope my experience can serve as a warning. When choosing a pet, fully understand their habits and be prepared for all kinds of situations to avoid getting into a dilemma like mine.
