Although I’ve never raised other cat breeds and can’t make a comparison, my Siamese cat, Shidan, is an incredibly reassuring and irreplaceable treasure in my heart. The days spent with it have been filled with laughter, helplessness, and an abundance of warmth and affection. With its distinct personality, it has left an indelible mark on my life.
Shidan boasts numerous endearing qualities. It is remarkably intelligent. I remember once, after I cleaned up the cat food it had scattered on the floor, it seemed to understand my intentions and never made such a mess again. Its ability to learn and adapt always amazes me. Shidan’s clinginess knows no bounds. No matter what I’m doing, it tries its best to snuggle up to me, pressing its soft body against mine, relishing the close contact. If it can’t reach me, it will sit beside me quietly, gazing at me with its big, round eyes full of dependence, as if I’m its entire world. Moreover, Shidan is extremely clean. After urinating, it would run to my mother’s bedsheet and rub its bottom, and its earnest expression always makes me laugh.

However, Shidan also has its quirks that can be both lovable and exasperating. It’s naturally mischievous. Whenever the door opens, it dashes out like an arrow and deliberately rolls around in the dirtiest corners. Every time I bring it back, it’s covered in dirt, leaving me at a loss whether to laugh or cry. During its teething period, Shidan was incredibly destructive, chewing through two original Apple earphones, three data cables, two headphones worth over 500 yuan each, and another item worth more than 100 yuan. These “feats” really took a toll on my wallet. Additionally, it often keeps me on edge. Once, after getting vaccinated, it seemed to have an allergic reaction. I was so worried that I drove around the city at around 10 p.m. looking for a 24 – hour pet hospital. But before I could reach the hospital, it recovered on its own. That scare left me shaken.
If you decide to raise a Siamese cat like Shidan, thorough preparation is essential. In terms of diet, choosing age – appropriate cat food is crucial. When I first started raising Shidan, I lacked experience and was misled by the cat seller, so I didn’t feed it properly, giving it chicken in addition to goat milk and kitten food. Now that Shidan is an adult, I’ve tried Acana and Solid Gold cat foods. Shidan prefers Solid Gold, which not only suits its taste but also offers better value for money. I usually use porcelain bowls to serve its food. When feeding goat milk, I warm it up and control the amount, choosing goat milk suitable for infants to ensure its health and comfort.
The selection of cat litter is equally important. I currently use Yoken tofu cat litter, which is affordable and practical. I once used off – brand cat litter that not only smelled bad but also didn’t clump well, resulting in higher consumption and ultimately costing more. There’s no need to be overly picky about the litter box; a regular one will suffice. As for small items, Shidan adores the two cat scratching posts I bought for 9.9 yuan. It has been using them for over a year and still loves them. The inexpensive cat tree, which cost around 100 yuan, has also become one of its favorites. While it doesn’t play with other toys all the time, it still gives them a try out of courtesy.
Regarding health care, vaccination and deworming are of great significance. Now, I buy the necessary medications online, but it’s crucial to be vigilant against counterfeits. I learned many tips for identifying fake products from Zhihu. Additionally, during the spring – to – summer transition, Siamese cats shed a lot of hair, so it’s necessary to comb their fur several times a day. This not only reduces the amount of hair floating around but also promotes their skin health.
Shidan has enriched my life in countless ways. Its strengths and quirks together form its unique charm. Although there have been some challenges in raising it, the joy and warmth it brings far outweigh those minor troubles. I hope my sharing can offer some help to those planning to raise a Siamese cat. May every Siamese cat grow up healthily and happily under the loving care of its owner.
