My “Coal-Mining Captain”: The Growth and Transformation of a Siamese Cat

In the world of pets, every little animal has its own unique story. The Siamese cat in my family, jokingly called the “coal-mining captain,” has an experience full of twists and warmth, making my love for it grow deeper and deeper.

I still remember that the day after bringing it home from the pet store, its eyes started to have problems. I was extremely worried at that time and took it to many hospitals. After repeated examinations and long waits, there was still no clear result. Finally, in one hospital, it was diagnosed with mycoplasma, chlamydia, and calicivirus infections all at once. During that period, its little body endured the torture of illness, and I started a long “nursing mode.” Feeding medicine and changing dressings every day became the norm of life. Because it wasn’t feeling well, there were few opportunities to take photos of it. Many of the photos I have now are memories from half a year ago.

Looking through the photos of its childhood, it had a snow-white body back then, with delicate and beautiful features, just like a lovely “young lad.” When it was seven months old, I took it to the hospital for the last check – up. In the photo, it was still pure white, and its innocent appearance filled me with joy. At that time, it was a bit naughty.

To treat its illness, I gave it interferon injections for 26 consecutive days. The doctor even said that it might not grow up properly. During that time, my heart was constantly filled with worry and anxiety. However, it showed tenacious vitality. Now, it weighs nearly 8 pounds. Seeing it healthy and lively, my heart is filled with relief and joy. All the hard work and worries in the past have turned into full happiness.

As time went by, it grew up and gradually showed the unique “color-changing” characteristic of Siamese cats. Its once snow-white fur gradually darkened, as if it had really become the “coal-mining captain.” In the photos taken in summer, even in the hot season, its fur color couldn’t return to the whiteness of its childhood. The doctor said that this was the lightest color it could get, and there was no way to change it. Looking at its increasingly dark appearance, I often couldn’t help but tease, “Uncle, no need to mine coal today. Have a wash. My phone can’t even focus on you.”

Once, because its fur was too dark, I took it to the pet store to get a haircut. I thought it would make it look fresher, but I couldn’t help laughing when it came back. It was a handsome “lad” when it went out, but when it came home, it seemed to have turned into an “aunt” with short hair styled in a middle part and a “mole” on its nose bridge. Its funny appearance was really hilarious. Although it occasionally gets naughty, like biting three of my makeup sponges, whenever I see its cute face, all my anger and dissatisfaction disappear instantly.

It is not just a pet but an indispensable partner in my life. When it was sick, I was extremely worried; when it grew up, I was delighted with every bit of its progress; when it was naughty, I was healed by its cute appearance. Every expression and every movement of it affects my heart. This “coal-mining captain” has left a deep mark on my life with its uniqueness and cuteness. It also makes me understand that no matter what it looks like, this companionship and love will never change. In the days to come, I look forward to continuing to create more beautiful memories with it.
