Raising a Cat for the First Time: Experiences with Diandian

As new “cat – parents”, we consulted the pet store owner about a lot of cat – raising experiences and bought many cat cans, cat toys, and so on for Diandian. But it didn’t like any of the toys. Diandian was especially fond of my phone charm and clothes pegs. It could play with a simple paper ball by itself for a long time. Occasionally, I would play with it using a cat teaser or a laser pointer.

Most of the time, Diandian played by itself, getting familiar with every corner of the dormitory. There were a lot of things under the bed and it had been dusty for a long time, so I blocked it with a box. This was a place it was extremely curious about and wanted to get into. Diandian was very obedient. Most of the time, it was quiet, playing and sleeping on its own, and also very cooperative with our daily routines. At first, when we didn’t let it sleep on the bed, it would curl up and sleep in all kinds of strange places.

I would like to suggest to new cat – owners that in the initial stage, don’t buy too many things. You can never guess what your cat “master” is thinking. Things like electric blankets and cat beds all depend on the cat’s mood.

After raising Diandian for less than a week, it had diarrhea because I fed it too much. After taking it to the veterinarian for an examination, we used cat intestinal cans to regulate its condition for a few days. (Key point: When feeding under – age kittens, pay attention to feeding small amounts but frequently. Kittens don’t know how to control their food intake and often have gastrointestinal problems due to overeating. Later, I even caused Diandian to have stomach bloating. It farted every day. We slowly nursed it back to health with probiotics and cat intestinal – regulating food. Don’t let cats eat too many cans, or they will become picky eaters. Snacks like cat food pouches should also be fed together with cat food.)

After it recovered, we took it to get the feline panleukopenia, calicivirus, and herpesvirus (FVRCP) vaccine. After the first injection, the whole cat became listless. It couldn’t eat and didn’t want to move, and kept sleeping. The doctor said this was a normal phenomenon, and there would be less of a reaction for the subsequent vaccinations. Vaccinations should be given on time. When getting vaccinated for the first time, the doctor will give a small notebook to record what vaccine was used and when it was given. When the cat is young, it needs to be vaccinated once a month. After several vaccinations, it will be vaccinated once a year. Specifically, follow the doctor’s advice.
