Introduction to British Shorthair Blue Cats

There are three types of blue cats: British Shorthair Blue Cats, Russian Blue Cats, and Chartreux Blue Cats (French Blue Cats).

Personally, I actually prefer Russian Blue Cats. They are similar to Siamese and Abyssinian cats, with big ears, a pointed chin, and a slender figure, looking very agile and beautiful.

However, today let’s first introduce the British Shorthair Blue Cats. When I introduce the Russian Blue Cats next time, we can talk about the differences between them. Well, actually, aren’t the differences quite obvious? In my impression, British Shorthair Blue Cats all have flat – faced and chubby appearances. It is said that their earliest origin was brought to the UK by the Romans. But from where? Wikipedia says it was Egypt… Are… you… sure? It looks so different from the Egyptian cats. Anyway… after years of cross – breeding and evolution, the British Shorthair Blue Cats have become a breed that is even more “ball – shaped” than orange cats.

The most obvious features are that they have blue – gray fur with copper – colored eyes. Their fur is short but very thick, and they are known as the “teddy bears” among cats. They are of medium – large size among domestic cats and take three years to fully mature. If you like active cats like Siamese and Abyssinian cats that are good at running and jumping, then this breed may not be suitable for you. British Shorthair Blue Cats after the infancy period usually become very stable and quiet. Even if they are willing to accompany humans, they don’t like close contact such as being hugged.

So, rather than being taken for walks, they may prefer to be a “couch potato”. The so – called “British mysterious smile” formed by their two chubby cheeks really makes them the best representative cats of the cold, independent, yet polite British people. There’s nothing particularly to worry about in terms of health… The only thing to worry about may be not to over – fatten them (it will put too much burden on the heart and liver).

Of course, British Shorthair cats are not only the blue – colored ones. There are many other colors and patterns. Common ones include tabby patterns like this and blue – and – white patterns like this. There are also other colors such as yellow – and – white, pointed, black, and so on…
