First, let’s talk about the characteristics of golden retrievers themselves.
1. Greedy.
Very, very greedy. As long as there is a sound of packaging, it will rush over at the first time and look at you eagerly. Because I spoil it and often give it snacks, it has grown to be a picky eater. Twice, it refused to eat dog food and kept thinking about its jerky, but every time I corrected it for being picky.
2. Smart…?
Golden Retrievers are well-known for being smart and ranked high. Halo is a double-blooded golden retriever with CKU certification. I don’t think it is very smart, hahahaha (maybe it’s not old enough). Of course, it knows the basics and is easy to teach through snack rewards (shake hands, lie down, sit, push things). It has never been taught to do fixed points, but it will know it as soon as it is received. It has been taught since childhood and now it has become a habit
3. Naughty.
It obviously knows what to do if you don’t let it do it, but it deliberately does it for you to see and attract your attention. It will hold a sock in front of you and wipe its mouth on your pants after drinking water.
4. A warm boy.
Halo is a female but looks more like a male. So I raise him as my son. If you sit, he will come to you, lie down with a clang, and sleep on your shoulder. He is a dog weighing more than 50 pounds! (The standard weight of an adult golden retriever seems to be more than 60 to 70 pounds). You can feel how heavy your shoulders feel
. He will feed you gently for fear of biting your hand.
If you don’t open the door for him or leave him, he will cry and walk around, whimpering and calling you inside the door. He will wait outside for you until you fall asleep
5. Hair loss.
Hair is flying everywhere! Clothes and other things are full of hair! He sheds almost all year round! (Bring your own vacuum cleaner and hair roller)
6. Enthusiasm.
Oh my god, don’t mention how enthusiastic it is. When it sees your friends, it’s as enthusiastic as when it sees its own mother. It also likes children very much. When it sees children on the street, it stares at them. So when walking the dog, you should pay attention to the elderly and children and hold the leash tightly to prevent it from suddenly jumping on people.
7. Does it destroy the house?
Halo, I haven’t destroyed the house. At most, I confiscated things so that it had an opportunity to bite, such as facial tissues and paper. The most expensive thing it has bitten is a wallet worth several thousand yuan.
8. Does it have a smell?
There is still a smell. If you keep it clean, it will be lighter. It will smell very good after a bath. After a week, there will be a smell again. The main bad smell comes from the soles of the feet. Because dogs don’t seem to have sweat glands to sweat, the smell from the soles of the feet does not affect daily life. If you mind, choose a small dog
.9. Do you like to be clean?
Halo has loved to keep his feces clean since he was young and will never touch his own feces. Of course, some dogs like to eat or step on their own feces (Halo’s brother from the same litter liked to eat it when he was young…). Every dog is different.
Golden retrievers drool a lot! If you let it look at its snacks without eating them, the saliva will really flow down. Here are two exaggerated photos.
10.Shamelessly push it away and it will come back like a spring, not holding grudges. If I pat its cheek when it does something wrong, it will lower its head and be sad silently. After a while, it will be as happy as a dog that has nothing to do.
11. Bark?
No! I was a little uneasy when I first came here. It hasn’t barked since it barked a few days ago. If someone outside makes a loud noise, it will get angry and growl or bark twice, otherwise it won’t bark at all. If it encounters a Teddy that is only as big as its head, it won’t bark back and will just look at people with a silly smile.
But I have also met golden retrievers who like to bark. I can only say that choosing a dog depends on fate.
